What kinds of things should I donate?

We are looking for new, handmade arts and crafts; examples include:

Items for children: soft or wooden toys, blankets, hats, puppets, hooded towels
Home decor: small artwork, quilts, wall hangings, throw pillows, pottery, miniatures, woodcarving, signs, candles, photographs, greeting cards
Personal accessories and toiletry items: scarves, jewelry, bags, hats, soaps
Pet items and yard art
Holiday or seasonal items: ornaments, stockings, garlands, wreaths

Are there things I should not donate?

We are not accepting food or perishable items or living plants. Items must be handmade. We reserve the right to decline the offer of any item we consider not suitable.

How do I donate?

Bring your items to the Friends Bookstore at the Marion Public Library on August 9th or August 23rd between 9:00-12:00 or 4:00-6:00. A completed donation form must be attached to the item at the time of delivery. If you need to deliver items at a different time, the bookstore volunteer or library staff at the Information Desk will be happy to accept your items and donation forms. Please contact us at friendsfundraiser@marionpubliclibrary.orgif you need a delivery date later than August 23.

How many items should I donate?

You may donate as many items as you like. Some people will donate only one item while others may choose to donate multiple items.

Do I have to price my items?

Please do provide either a price or a suggested range for the price of your items.

Can I leave my business card with my items?

You may leave business cards or flyers (no larger than 8-1/2”x11”) with your items. We’ll make these available at the sale for those attending.

What if my item does not sell?

Handmade items donated to the Marion Makers’ Market will be retained by the Friends. If items do not sell, they may be sold at future events or otherwise utilized to benefit the library. Friends of the Marion Public Library thank you for your generous support.

Where does the money go?

Proceeds from the Marion Makers’ Market will be used to help outfit the Marion Public Library Bookmobile with books, technology, and other equipment.

Do I need to attend the Marion Makers' Market?

You do not need to attend the event. However, you may wish to explore and shop the other local vendors.

How will the event and items be marketed?

The event will be marketed on the Library’s and Friends’ websites and social media accounts, and at the Marion, IA Happenings Facebook page. We encourage you to promote the sale and your items on your personal pages.
